Commander Nathan J. Gammache enlisted in the Navy in October 1993 and served with the USS Simon Lake (AS-33) reserve unit at Naval Station, Annapolis as an undesignated metal worker. In January 1995, he entered Nuclear Field Electrician’s Mate “A” School during which he was selected for the Naval Academy Prep School and subsequent appointment to the United States Naval Academy. He graduated from the Naval Academy in 2000 with a B.S. in Systems Engineering and was designated a Naval Flight Officer in November 2002.

In June 2003, CDR Gammache joined VP-40, completing two deployments to CENTCOM and PACOM in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM.

In December 2007, CDR Gammache completed an M.B.A. in Financial Management from the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), graduating with distinction and completing the Air Force Command and Staff College’s JPME Phase 1 program. He was selected as the Navy Representative to the NPS President’s Student Council and was awarded the NPS Superior Service Award and the Department of the Navy Award for Excellence in Financial Management. He is also a graduate of the NPS Anti-Submarine Warfare Certificate program.

In February 2008, CDR Gammache reported to the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN-71) as a Catapult and Arresting Gear Officer, and qualified as OOD/CDO (Underway) completing a deployment to the CENTCOM AOR. During CVN-71’s first eight months of Refueling Complex Overhaul, he served on the CNAL Carrier Readiness Team. In February 2010, he reported to VP-30 and served as a Fleet Replacement Squadron Instructor TACCO, Weapons Tactics Instructor and Assistant Officer-in-Charge of Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Weapons School.

In September 2011, he reported to VP-5 and served as Commander Task Group 72.2 Operations Officer, P-8 Transition Officer, and Squadron Operations Officer prior to, during and following the squadron’s transition from the P-3 to the P-8 aircraft. CDR Gammache worked as a Congressional Appropriations Liaison from 2014 to 2017. His liaison portfolio included Naval Aviation, Aircraft Carriers, House Appropriations Committee on Surveys and Inspections, and Navy Special Access Programs.

CDR Gammache is currently assigned as the Commanding Officer of VP-47, homeported at NAS Whidbey Island.
